Hanuman Ka Mela Begins! Devotees Worship Sacred Langur Hanuman
As the first light of dawn touches the earth, the air fills with the sounds of bells, chants, and joyous cheers—marking the grand beginning of the much-awaited Hanuman Ka Mela. This vibrant festival, deeply rooted in devotion and tradition, draws thousands of faithful followers who come to offer their prayers and celebrate the mighty monkey god, Lord Hanuman. But this year, the spotlight is not just on statues or rituals—it is on a living embodiment of Hanuman himself: a sacred langur revered by all.
This extraordinary langur, known affectionately by the locals as “Bajrang,” has captured the hearts of devotees and villagers alike. With his striking golden-grey fur and majestic calm demeanor, Bajrang is believed by many to be a divine incarnation or blessing from Hanuman himself. Every year, as the festival kicks off, Bajrang takes center stage, his presence igniting both awe and reverence in the crowd. People line up for hours just to get a glimpse of him, touch his feet, and seek his blessings.
The mela grounds transform into a sea of saffron, as devotees clad in orange and red gather, chanting the sacred “Jai Hanuman!” Loud drums beat in rhythm, conches blow, and the entire atmosphere is charged with spiritual energy. Bajrang is gently carried on a beautifully decorated platform resembling a royal chariot, surrounded by flower garlands, incense smoke, and chants of “Bajrang Bali Ki Jai!”
Traditional priests lead the rituals, offering sweets, garlands, and vermillion to the langur. Some even apply a tilak (sacred mark) on his forehead, a gesture symbolic of divine acknowledgment. It’s not uncommon to see tearful eyes and folded hands, as people bow before Bajrang with pure devotion, believing their prayers will be heard and their hardships eased.
Children run around joyfully, vendors sell religious trinkets, and elders narrate tales of Hanuman’s unmatched strength, loyalty, and service to Lord Rama. Cultural performances, bhajan sandhyas (devotional song evenings), and dramatic re-enactments of Hanuman’s heroic feats add to the celebratory spirit of the festival.
But this event is not just a celebration—it is also a reflection of faith and unity. The sacred langur has become a symbol of hope, bringing people from different walks of life together in the name of belief. Animal caretakers and local officials ensure the langur is treated with respect and kept safe amidst the enthusiastic crowd.
As the sun sets on the first day of Hanuman Ka Mela, the energy does not wane. Lamps are lit, prayers are sung, and the devotion only grows deeper. Whether viewed as a divine being or a blessed creature, the sacred langur Hanuman continues to inspire, remind, and uplift the hearts of countless devotees. This extraordinary union of faith and nature makes Hanuman Ka Mela a truly unforgettable spiritual experience.
